The guy who sings this, and originated the role of Simba, killed himself in 2004. I find a sad irony in this.
I know that the night must end
And that the sun will rise
And that the sun will rise
I know that the clouds must clear
And that the sun will shine
And that the sun will shine
Endless Night - The Lion King OBC
I think… yeah it could be considered”ironic” but… most actors are not who they are on the stage, so it’s not surprising that his actions are contrary to one of his roles, since actors may not share the same beliefs as that character, or even feel similarly at all. They become a different person on stage and quite honestly, whatever worries are eating at them from real life are “put aside” until the performance is over. Perhaps whatever burdened this man was something that had far more power over him than the lyrics to a song he had to learn as part of his job. I think what is truly sad is that such a talented actor (I saw him in this role and he was fantastic) was lost to the world, and that he was pushed to kill himself. Sorry if this was a super serious answer to your post… I just really loved that performance, and specifically this song. It’s one of the songs I listened to while fighting my own feelings of suicide. I just wish the way it had inspired me could have inspired him as well.
I really miss Gail. She would know what to do. I am so sorry for hurting you (again).
